Module 2 - Activity 2b: Educational Equity
The research finds these essential aspects of teacher knowledge to ensure equitable teaching & learning:
- deep knowledge of mathematics in conceptually grounded ways
- pedagogical content knowledge
- knowledge of students’ mathematical thinking
- knowledge of their students' lives
Furthermore, teachers’ dispositions toward, and beliefs about, not only their students, but also about their communities, perceived abilities, culture, language, and the nature of mathematical understanding, are all important as well.
Discuss with your PLC:
- What is your reaction to this research?
- Which of the skills do you feel confident about?
- Which of the skills are most important for you to learn?
Take notes about the conclusions you've reached
