Create your own number string of 4 to 6 problems that you could use to help develop your students understanding of strategies they can use for addition or subtraction that use place value.  

 

discuss  Discuss with your PLC:

  • The mathematical goal of your number string.

  • Which problems in your string are “helpers” and which are the “challenge” problems?

  • Strategies you anticipate students using to solve the problems and which models you will use to record their thinking. For instance, will you use a hundreds chart? Open number line? Symbols? Why?
